Amateur radio is used to contact other Scouts around the world by a variety of methods. You can experience here the magic of connecting stations in a “wireless” way through simple means, and be amazed by radio contacts into space and even to the Moon. Have you practised your Morse code yet? For this area, you need the help of a licensed radio amateur. 

JOTA all started with a scout leader who was also a radio amateur. That’s why, to connect to JOTA, you’ll need to connect with a licensed radio amateur in your local area. Radio stations are operated by licensed amateur radio operators. Many Scouts and leaders hold licenses and have their own stations, but the majority participate in JOTA through stations operated by local radio clubs and individual radio amateurs.

All radio operators must operate their station in accordance with their local regulations. License conditions vary from country to country and Third Party Agreements regulating communications apply.
Stations should try to contact each other by calling “CQ Jamboree” or “CQ JOTA”. Any authorized amateur radio frequency may be used. Once you’re in contact with a group, you can move to another frequency for a deeper discussion.
